All things bright and beautiful,
all creatures great and small,
all things wise and wonderful,
the Lord God made them all.

“But ask the animals, and they will teach you,
or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you;
Job 12 v7
She hobbled painfully down the street, accompanied by a little white
dog in a yellow vest. Later I saw them both in the supermarket, and
noticed printing on the yellow vest, indicating that the dog was an
assistance hearing dog. I was reminded again of the untold blessings
which animals bring into our lives, and how they demonstrate God’s love
to us. I am currently reading ‘Comet’s Tale: how the dog I rescued
saved my life” by Steven Wolf. Comet is a gentle rescue greyhound who
had been raced, abused, starved and abandoned. It is this very dog
who, by God’s amazing grace, helped to bring healing to Steven and
save his marriage.
On a personal level, I have for eight years, been sharing my life
with Izzy, a gentle British shorthair cat. I am experiencing for
myself the many blessings of living life with an animal companion.
Isn’t it such a gift of the Creator, that these creatures with whom we
share our lives, bring us many psychological as well as physical benefits?
Dr. Karen Becker writes, “On an emotional level, owning a pet can
decrease depression, stress and anxiety; health-wise, it can lower your
blood pressure, improve your immunity and even decrease your risk of
heart attack and stroke.”

In Your infinite wisdom, Lord God, when You created the universe You
blessed us with all living creatures. We especially thank you for giving
us our pets who are our friends and who bring us so much joy in life.
Their presence very often helps us get through trying times. Kindly bless
my pet. May my pet continue giving me joy and remind me of Your power.
May we realize that as our pets trust us to take care of them, so we
should trust You to take care of us, and in taking care of them we share
in Your love for all creatures. Amen.
